Showing at LA Day Of The Dead

I got into Los Angeles Día De Los Muertos (LA Day Of The Dead) , held at the Hollywood Forever cemetery! I was lucky enough to have a few pieces in 2012, and it is a thrill to be able to show there again. The art show is held at the big Mausoleum on the cemetery ground, but there is so much more!

The event takes over the entire cemetery. People set up magnificent altars to celebrate the lives of those we lost. The mood is of merriment and joy. The music, food, and dancing are unforgettable. It is an amazing experience. This is not a Halloween thing. This is a badass cultural event sharing its glory with the world. Anyone gets to come party and paint their faces and get dressed up and have a great time!

Think Tank Gallery Recap

I’ll be sending out another email from my mailing list before I go to London, so make sure you are signed up if you want pre-sale info, and post-sale info when I get back 😉 Yup, Muertitas will be available to buy after all these shows mellow out.

Speaking of shows, Think Tank on Saturday night was a great time! It was an honor to be part of  a show with so many great artists with a breadth of impressive work. Two artists I was especially excited to meet are below in the highlights. Thank you so much to those who were able to come out! (Full album here on FLICKR.)

Yup. Dats Allison Torneros, AKA Hueman. She was kind enough to pose for a photo and listen to me tell her how cool her art is. Been following her, as I do most artists, online. Her juxtapositions of tender/sexy women in dreamlike, fractioned palettes are so powerful. Her work also keeps evolving, and it is great to watch. Her street art is just brilliant. Super sweet I got a photo with her.

What!? My art got to be right next to hers?! Awww yeahhhh!

Artist Adonna Khare has an amazing story. If you don’t know it already, a little synopsis here.  She was disarmingly kind. As we chatted she shared a really cool factoid: when her art goes up in a space, she re-works it to fit that space. This means there is no protective sealant during the shows, and she never really finishes and seals a piece until after its travelled a bit and is bought and framed. I really attracted to her work online, which is sad only because my monitor is not as big as her work. Her surreal style makes powerful beasts interact with their environment in such a way that creates tense, energetic compositions. Looking at her pieces is like tripping down a train of feelings. However, I had no idea how impressive these pieces are in person. I was really lucky to meet her and see these pieces.

This is made with pencils, erasers, and a sock. Just think about that. I still do.

Art Show In London!

I was invited by the Brick Lane Gallery in London to exhibit my art in a 10 day group show!

HOLY SMACKA-MOLY!

However, shipping out my Muertitas and paintings is very expensive. It is actually much cheaper to fly myself out and my art personally.

SO I’LL BE GOING TO THE LONDON for the FIRST TIME EVER!

But the real kicker:  I have the group show in downtown Los Angeles in the beginning of March, and this Brick Lane show is mid March….

I have a lot of work to do. February, you will kick my ass.

But, It will be worth it. Also, if you recommend any artsy locations, classic pubs, or great comic shops, just let me know. Really, any place you’ve been that you love and would recommend to a first timer.

As usual, if you want to stay updated of when Muertita’s go on sale, which is usually after shows, please sign up for MY MAILING LIST HERE.

And here is my SHOWS PAGE on my website which gets updated when there is a show!
