Last year’s solo show at 8 Ball was amazing, easily one of the best gallery experiences I have ever had. It was a great group of supporters, and the lounge in the back was perfect for conversation and drinks.

8 Ball Gallery is having me back again this year for my new solo show called “Tide & Blossom”. We are having the opening reception November 8th. There is no entry fee, just come on in and celebrate. There will be Muertitas, paintings, prints, and refreshments.

Pre-Sale PDF
I will be sending the Pre-Sale PDF between November 5th and 6th. If you would like to be on that email list and buy Muertitas before the show opens, sign up to be on the newsletter here by November 5th.

Hollywood Forever Día De Los Muertos

This famous cemetery is hosting Día De Los Muertos for the 15th year in a row, making its party a Quinceañera! Come celebrate and remember those who have passed with joy and merriment.

My pieces have the honor of being be in the Cathedral Mausoleum Art Exhibit curated by international artist Luis Villanueva, but there is so much more. Artists from all over the country set up incredible altars along the winding paths. During the day you are able to see all the details, and in the evening the cemetery really comes to life when the altars light up.

This is a big event, so plan ahead about parking. Pre-Purchase your tickets on their website to avoid lines the day of the event. Calaca apparel encouraged! Families are welcome!

There is NO Pre-Sale for my art. I will be there for the duration of the event, and if I am lucky enough to have someone connect with a Muertita and want to give her a home, they pay for my time right then and there.

Showing at LA Day Of The Dead

I got into Los Angeles Día De Los Muertos (LA Day Of The Dead) , held at the Hollywood Forever cemetery! I was lucky enough to have a few pieces in 2012, and it is a thrill to be able to show there again. The art show is held at the big Mausoleum on the cemetery ground, but there is so much more!

The event takes over the entire cemetery. People set up magnificent altars to celebrate the lives of those we lost. The mood is of merriment and joy. The music, food, and dancing are unforgettable. It is an amazing experience. This is not a Halloween thing. This is a badass cultural event sharing its glory with the world. Anyone gets to come party and paint their faces and get dressed up and have a great time!

London Recap!

Its been just over a month since we returned from London, but it feels like a week since arriving from an experience of a lifetime.

From the 1,000 photos on my phone that had to be sifted through, I present a select few! Thank you to all who recommended what to visit and who to see. Special thanks to the Brick Lane Gallery for the opportunity, to Tessa Yee for her professionalism and warmth, and all the assistants who did a wonderful job of hanging my work and kept the wine flowing.

Actual fortune my husband received before our trip.
London Fortune

It began with an email from Brick Lane Gallery after they found me on Behance: An invitation to a 2 week group show in in London, with only 2.5 months to prepare new work. After considering the tight deadline, credit card limits, and traveling with such fragile work, the fact remained I didn’t know if this was my first or last chance for an opportunity like this. The decision was made that I had to go for it. I dove headfirst into casting, painting, finding/buying luggage to carry art, and making sure my daytime work with the great people at Home Brew was still a top priority. Finally, after late nights and full weekends, I was packed and ready to go!

Art Show In London!

I was invited by the Brick Lane Gallery in London to exhibit my art in a 10 day group show!

HOLY SMACKA-MOLY!

However, shipping out my Muertitas and paintings is very expensive. It is actually much cheaper to fly myself out and my art personally.

SO I’LL BE GOING TO THE LONDON for the FIRST TIME EVER!

But the real kicker:  I have the group show in downtown Los Angeles in the beginning of March, and this Brick Lane show is mid March….

I have a lot of work to do. February, you will kick my ass.

But, It will be worth it. Also, if you recommend any artsy locations, classic pubs, or great comic shops, just let me know. Really, any place you’ve been that you love and would recommend to a first timer.

As usual, if you want to stay updated of when Muertita’s go on sale, which is usually after shows, please sign up for MY MAILING LIST HERE.

And here is my SHOWS PAGE on my website which gets updated when there is a show!

The show was amazing!Shuffle-Zebra-Dance-Party-Reaction-Gif

Seriously, thank you for making it happen. It’s one thing to make the art, but for you to buy (It’s almost all sold out oh my goodness!), encourage, party, smile, hug, laugh, come out, encourage even when you couldn’t come out with text, email, messages –

I may have made the art, but Jamie at 8 Ball Gallery made the space, and you all made the show when you came. Basically, I really feel like this was a moment of the lifetime. No matter what happens after this, I always had this moment with you all. Who knows what the future holds, this may have been my lucky streak, or the beginning. One thing is for certain, that was awesome.

My deepest of thanks.

And now, for some photos of the event! The whole album is here on flickr, we actually didn’t get that many photos on my camera since the battery died, but here are a few choice selects where I’m not making faces, and group photos for scrolling enjoyment.

Finished! This is a visual quilt of 25 panels. Once I get this scanned and have prints made, I will cut up the original for the 25 special edition books of “Sleepless”. I will post on my site, blog, facebook, and twitter when all aspects of this art piece are available.
Watercolor, graphite, and india ink. I have also submitted this piece to Art Takes London. Here’s hoping!

Ronnie's Corner

Happy Friday fellow readers! I asked my friend, Art Collector, Gallery Curator, And Fine Art Aficionado, Ronnie Pirovino the following:
Q:

“What would you recommend to an artist who wants to approach a gallery with a body of work?”

A:

“Look for galleries that are doing shows with emerging artists. Most of
them do group exhibitions. The best way to get your foot in the door
is through group shows. Have a professional website with your
portfolio and be prepared when you make a personal visit. If you
demonstrate some care as to the way you present yourself, it’ll go a
long way. Don’t be afraid to call and chat with whomever answers the
phone and obtain a contact to email at the gallery. If they agree to
review the artwork, follow up after a couple of weeks with an email.
There are so many galleries on the planet that if you get a ‘pass’
from someplace, another may be very eager for your art. Persistence
will allow you the obtain the opportunities that will come easier as
you become more established. Focus on creating great artwork, first
and foremost, then undertake marketing it with the same zeal.”

I will be applying these thoughts as I continue to create my art. I hope his feedback will help you as well. As time goes on, I will continue to pick his brain because of his invaluable experience, observation, information, and a sterling lover of art in the ideal-est of terms.

Draw on!
